Hooping Classes In NWNJ - start Wednesday!

Hoop Dance Classes: Exploring the art and flow of the hoop at Breathing Room Center

BLAIRSTOWN/NEWTON - For centuries, various cultures have understood the ways in which movement and form can make way for mystical experience. The hoop is an ancient symbol of community, and connectivity within each of us individually, the human community, and the larger Earth Community. moe, moe.rons and morons

moe. was great yesterday. Their music is jammy and fun, good grooves. The hard core moe-rons, as they dub themselves, were in their glory. I missed Ryan Montbleau but heard rave reviews from everyone who caught the band. CreatAVibe did a fantastic job. The Vasa Park setting was gorgeous: huge shade trees, lots of grassy spots to hang. Wild berry picking, twirling and dancing going on everywhere. The music and the scene were kind and peaceful. Definitely a fun family friendly spot for music.

One sour note was the police blockade and check point set up on Route 46 near the turn in for the concert. Concert goers were being pulled over, searched and generally hassled. I understand the need to keep people safe. This however was a clear case of profiling. I am thankful for the music, culture and art these guys pulled off in tough times for our local music scene.

The next event presented at Vasa Park is the Mighty High Festival. Great line up including the Dark Star Orchestra and Donna Jean band. I hope this time around NJ 's finest keep an open mind and don't pre-judge festival goers by the fest's name ;)

Irish Music in NWNJ!

With the greenin' of the Sussex & Warren County hills comes... Happy Shamrocks Day, as we say around here. The best part of Paddy's Day is the music. Locally some of the best bands are them scoundrels, Paddy and the Pale Boys and the acousticy hard drinkin' sounds of Magillicuddy Reeks. I also have a fondness for the kids from Emish. This band is loaded with energy and talented musicians. The two female instrumentals/singer are now with child and children (triplets), so go see them before they cut back on their touring schedule. I got the new cd, "One More Round" from their manager Corey and it is spectacular.

On the national and international front, The Saw Doctors have some of the sweetest, funniest and bawdiest tunes going. Enjoy the green' !

Here is an Irish Toast to you:
May your mornings bring joy
and your evenings bring peace...
May your troubles grow less
as your blessings increase!

Spring Fest Sprung!

This weekend was SpringFest at the Sussex County Fairgrounds. This is an event I look forward to every year because it pulls you into spring. Yellows, Red, Purples, Pinks. It is floral sensory overload. Met an old friend who is now doing her passion. Her new non profit is called Arthur & Friends. They are setting up hydroponic greenhouses to create jobs and food from "your differently-abled neighbors", like her son Arthur. The food they grow will be served at restaurants around our area. A win win for all! Find out more about this Norwescap program at Norwescap.

Swamp and Todd Sheaffer was amazing. Sweet introspection from Todd and very swirly dancing with Swampadelica! Through the roof energy..... And they have a new song, lovingly titled, "How F'ed are We?" I am paraphrasing here. Nadine says it is about everything going on now in our world... from economy to relationships, all of it. Wish we knew the answer(s).
